Hydrogen Cars Closer to Reality

Did you know that hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe? That it powers our very sun? That everything in the hydrogen future is going to be so groovy that we'll need tranquilizer darts shot into our necks just to keep from screaming about how great it'll be? There are politicians, plutocrats and pundits who believe that H2 is the future, that ramming it through the membranes of a fuel cell to make electricity is what will power cars in the not-too-far-from-near term. And there are companies betting big bucks on that, too.

And while for years it was easy to dismiss hydrogen-powered anything as being too energy-intensive to be worthwhile, some of the experts at the expo were at least saying that hydrogen makes financial as well as efficiency sense.

“Hydrogen is already made today in large scale at very efficient rates, over 80 to 85 percent efficient in terms of energy in to energy out,” said Ed Heydorn, business development manager of Hydrogen Energy Systems for Air Products. “Technologies already exist that can produce hydrogen at efficiencies and costs that meet the needs for transportation and other applications.”

MOMS AND YOUNG DRIVER'S, LOVE STATION WAGONS

Station wagon fans have been salivating for years over the Acura TSX wagon ever since it was sold overseas as a Honda. The TSX Sport Wagon looks like an interesting entry in a small segment and could offer a significant value in the entry-level luxury space like the TSX sedan does. Like that sedan, the Sport Wagon will feature a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine teamed to a five-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel paddle shifters. However, the Sport Wagon will eke out 1 more mpg on the highway, an estimated 30.

President Obama to buy the first 100 Chevy volt Electric Cars, WHAT??

After making investment after investment in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, the Obama administration will put more money into a symbolic gesture of support for the burgeoning technology.

The White House said it will purchase the “first 100 plug-in electric vehicles to roll off American assembly lines.” By this it means the much anticipated Chevrolet Volt.

BMW Super Fast POLICE CARS, 12,500 pre orders taken from Indiana Company

In a deal signed on Monday, Carbon ordered more than 240,000 units of BMW's 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbodiesel — the same engine used in the X5. In the X5, the diesel is rated at 265 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. Carbon is developing the E7, a purpose-built patrol car that will be sold only to police agencies. The E7 is expected to launch in 2012, and the company says it currently has 12,500 reservations for cars. The company is based in Connersville, Ind., where it plans to build cars in a former Visteon plant.

Premium vs. Regular Gas: How to Decide

Most cars don't need premium, but a few do -- and not necessarily the ones you'd expect. And premium's not likely to "clean" your engine, either. It will  you around $2.00 more per week to drive a car that requires premium.

While many people claim that their car runs better on premium, this costly fuel is really only needed in a few circumstances. However, when it is needed, it must be used to spare your engine from costly damage. On the other hand, if you burn premium when your car doesn’t need it, the damage won’t be to your engine but only to your pocketbook.
